Realise your invention with ideas2IP

IF YOU have ideas for new inventions, like an iPhone rival, but do not know how to realise your ideas or lack the means to do so, help is here.

The Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (Ipos) yesterday launched an online portal called ideas2IP that will help match inventors with prospective investors in a secure environment.

For instance, investors need to be pre-qualified by Ipos and the agency will also advise inventors to sign non-disclosure agreements with investors so that their ideas will be kept secret.

Speaking on the sidelines of an event held at Resorts World Sentosa to mark the 10th anniversary of Ipos, its director-general, Ms Liew Woon Yin, said the impetus to set up the portal which is on a one-year trial arose from public feedback for a way to determine the feasibility of budding inventors' ideas.

One investor, Invention Capital, has already signed on with ideas2IP and another could come on board soon.

Mr Ryan Lee, chief executive of Xmi, the home-grown firm that created the hit X-mini capsule speakers, cheered the launch of ideas2IP. He said: "It could be refreshing to get involved in the portal...to see what ideas other people outside of the company may have, with regard to the development of our products, and to get a fresh perspective on things."

Ipos also launched a competency framework to raise the capabilities of intellectual-property professionals and practitioners.
